Shed and garage thieves target Dover
DOVER residents are being warned not to leave valuable tools and equipment in their sheds and garages.
Police have issued the advise following six reported break-ins since the start of March.
Officers say they believe the lighter evenings will encourage opportunist crooks to target sheds, garages and out buildings.
Between March 2 and 3 a lawnmower and cycle stolen were from shed in Riverdale, and two cycles stolen from neighbouring garage.
On the same dates a garden strimmer and two bottles of booze were stolen from a shed in London Road, Dover. Thieves struck again in London Road betweeen March 5 and 7 when a cycle and toolbox taken from a different shed.
A saw, sander and planer were also stolen from a garage and two cycles and a garden shredder were stolen from a shed in Kingston Close.
Officers and PCSOs are carrying out extra patrols and residents are being warned to keep their belongings secure.
Sgt Guy Thompson, of Dover Community Safety Unit, said: "Don't leave expensive tools, bikes and garden equipment in your shed or garage and if possible get all valuables property-marked. Consider buying stronger locks and fitting alarms.
"If you notice anyone suspicious near allotments or in people's gardens, or you are suspicious about people you have seen selling these as second hand items, contact Kent Police."
