Sevenoaks teacher vomited and spat at officers
A Sevenoaks teacher could face jail after he vomited and spat on two police officers.
Edward Cunningham, 28, of Seal Road, was found guilty at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court of the two assaults, although he had denied committing them.
He was stopped by police while driving on Otford Road, Sevenoaks, on October 10 last year.
PC Nathan Cox said he believed Cunningham had jumped a red light.
He said: "When I first saw him, he almost fell on to me and I could smell intoxicating liquor on his breath.
"He seemed very drunk and he was staggering.
"I remember lines being quoted from police shows on TV and the usual things said, like he paid our wages.
"He was being obstructive."
Cunningham was then arrested and put into the back of the vehicle to be taken to Tonbridge.
PC Cox told the court that Cunningham had warned: "I am going to p*** in your police car if you don't let me have a p***."
After a pause while he was taken out of the car as a precaution, the journey towards Tonbridge continued.
Cunningham then told the officers he was feeling sick and vomited in the footwell of the left-hand rear passenger seat.
PC Cox told the court: "He stopped being sick at one point, got up, looked at me, leaned towards me and, when he opened his mouth, vomit came towards me."
He added Cunningham was pushing against him as well as vomiting on him.
Defending her client, Jazz Omari suggested he had been feeling unwell, but had not been drunk.
She said: "I suggest he first turned to you to ask you if the car could be stopped and it was at that point he was sick on you.
"It was purely accidental. It wasn't aimed or directed or targeted at all," she added.
Cunningham was then taken to Tonbridge police station in a different patrol car where he was "loud and abusive".
He was taken to a nearby cell with a toilet where he continued to be sick before lying on his back.
PC Dan Jennings described to the court how he had been concerned for the defendant's safety and helped him to his knees.
Cunningham then turned over his shoulder and spat at the police officer in the face.
He then refused to provide a urine sample, a criminal offence which he later admitted in court.
Defending him, Miss Omari argued Cunningham could not urinate because of stress.
She also claimed Cunningham had spat involuntarily due to illness.
Chairman of the bench Julie Evans described Cunningham's behaviour as "disgusting" and ordered an all options report, which could include jail, to be provided before sentencing on April 28.

“Have a heart, he's clearly suffering from a series of debilitating illnesses that cause him to swear and spit at the police. Anyone trying to explain these bizarre medical conditions to an unsympathetic police officer would clearly find it too stressful to urinate. It's outrageous to suggest that he's just another obnoxious, drink-driving clown, with no concept of how to behave in civilised society, who's persuaded a lawyer to peddle a load of nonsense in court.
I only wish I could be a student in his classroom on Monday morning...”
