A MEMORIAL service to celebrate the life of Edwin Boorman, president of the Kent Messenger Group, was held in Maidstone last week.

Around 700 people attended All Saints Church for the thanksgiving, led by Rt Rev Stephen Venner.

Mr Boorman died last month after a short illness.

Among the speakers were newspaperman Sir Ray Tindle, Marquis of Abergavenny Christopher Neville and Steve Sherry.

Former Deputy Constable of Dover Castle and ex-interim chief executive of Folkestone's Creative Foundation Brig Trevor Minter (rtd) and his wife Liz were present as was former Folkestone vicar Rev John Tapper.

Kent County Council leader Paul Carter and Maidstone MP Helen Grant also attended.

There was also a large contingent of Kent Messenger journalists including Ian Carter, current editorial director, Graham Smith, Norman Smith, Ron Green, Robert Barham and Leo Whitlock. Former managing director David Lewis also attended.
