Second man arrested in Canterbury double death probe
A second man was arrested last night (Tuesday) in connection with a double death investigation at Canterbury.
The 28-year-old Canterbury man was arrested at 9.30pm on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.
Meanwhile, police were granted a 36-hour extension yesterday evening to continue questioning a 54-year old Canterbury man who was arrested on Monday
The bodies of two men, Canterbury busker Daniel Lloyd, known as Taihg, 25, and 17-year-old Archbishop's School pupil Hugo Wenn, were discovered by police in Reed Pond, Sturry, on Monday.
Officers had been using a helicopter to search for Hugo, who had been reported missing by his parents on Sunday. His body was spotted from the air and recovered by Whitstable firemen at noon.
Police divers discovered the second body in the pond, which is behind Parkside Community Primary School off Tennyson Avenue, nine hours later. Mr Lloyd was a former student at Canterbury College.
Post mortem examinations were being carried out today on both men to establish the cause of death.
Hugo was last seen alive on Friday evening after he failed to meet friends in the Blind Dog pub in Canterbury.
Michael Liddicoat, head teacher at Archbishop's, said: "Hugo was a gentle giant who touched the lives of many people. The school is in real shock. He was a real character who enjoyed sport, particularly rugby."
Canterbury city councillor Jennie Byford, who went to college with Mr Lloyd, said: "We spent a lot of time together at college. He was a sweetie who didn't have a care in the world. He was a well-known busker in Cantebrury and a brilliant singer."
Police Chief Inspector Steve Barlow said: "These are particularly tragic circmustances."
He appealed for anyone who may have seen the men near Reed Pond to call 01303 289600 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
