School's best A-level results bring delight
DESPITE national concerns over a lack of further education places for successful A-level candidates, Canterbury High pupils have nothing to worry about.
Every one of the sixth-formers who applied to university found out on Thursday that they had earned the necessary grades.
The highest grades were achieved in sport, English and performing arts, and the school, which has specialist sports status, had its best overall set of results yet.
Head of sixth form Dan Bonneywell said: "All those who applied to university got their places. Some are going on to college and further education or vocational courses.
"I'm over the moon, it's my first full year as head of sixth form and the students really delivered."
One of those successful pupils is Caroline Webb, 18, who earned a double distinction in her BTEC in performing arts, along with a B in English and a C in drama.
She is heading to the University of Kent for a drama, theatre studies and comparative literature course.
She said: "I want to be a drama teacher, so I'll be doing my degree and then a teaching certificate."
Rachel Hanagan, who has competed nationally in the UK School Games and won a relay gold medal, was celebrating the news that she had received A grades in ICT and a BTEC in sport and C grades in psychology and sociology. The 18-year-old said: "I'm really pleased."
Rachel is staying on at Canterbury High for a sports development apprenticeship and will apply to universities next year to study sports science.
