Fiona Gardiner, clerk of the Community College Whitstable governors, collected a BTEC award for clerking.

Rosalind Turner, managing director of the county council's Children, Families and Education department, said: "This was an opportunity to recognise the outstanding achievement of many schools and their governors and clerks.

"Governors are at the heart of how a school operates and have a vital role to play in the overall effectiveness of that school."

There are 7,500 governors and more than 500 clerks in Kent.
