S Club 3 in Herne Bay
SIZE doesn't matter, says S Club singer Bradley McIntosh. The 28-year-old was speaking after only 300 fans – many under 12 – turned up for the group's reunion show at Herne Bay's Kings Hall.
As he signed autographs with colleagues Jo O'Meara and Paul Cattermole following the Saturday night bash he said: "Size isn't everything. This was a nice, intimate gig.
"When we were in S Club 7 we were kept away from small venues like this and only played big arenas. To play somewhere like this is great for us."
Jo and Paul agreed. Blonde Jo, 30, said: "There may have been only 300 but they were very loud."
Paul, 32, said: "Some of the kids were probably only two when we started 11 years ago but they were brilliant. I was even mobbed in the fish and chip shop on the way in. I thought after all these years I'd be able to creep in unrecognised."
The S Club 3 have been playing 20-minute sets of hits like Reach, S Club Party, Bring It All Back and Don't Stop Movin' since last November. Saturday was the final date of their current reunion tour.
Ironically, it ended in the home town of former Pop Idol judge Nikki Chapman who helped launch the original seven-piece S Club 7 in 1999 with pop music mogul and former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller.
Bradley, who joined the band as an 18-year-old, recalled: "Our first meeting was in Nikki's house. She gave us a Chinese meal but I was terribly out of my depth with all these business people and beautiful women in the same room!"
He has now teamed up with former Big Brovas rappers J Rock and Randy to create a new group called Party Dark which was also on Saturday's bill performing new singles Is That You and Back To My Roots. After the show all three chaps headed for Canterbury nightclub Studio 41 for its gay night Boys and Girls.
Back at Herne Bay it had been a family affair with Jo turning up with her 16-month-old son Lenny. Scott Robinson – one fifth of former boy band 5ive - arrived with his wife Kerry and their two children Brennan, eight, and Kavan, three, to perform a medley of his band's songs on his own.
Young girls ran to the front of the stage and screamed as Scott and then S Club sang their hits of yester-year. Two unfurled a giant banner proclaiming Reach For The Stars and another slid a poster onto the stage with the words There's Still No Party Like An S Club Party painted on it.
The two-and-a-half hour show was put together by former Canterbury College student Matt Wynter who vowed: "It went well. I'm hoping to put another show together for Herne Bay next year."
It was reported the S Club trio charged £3,000 for the appearance. Tickets were £17.50 for adults and £10 for under-12s.
Support acts
ALSO performing were 17-year-old singer-songwriter Karen Harding from Newcastle-upon-Tyne; girl trio Envy comprising Laura Skuse, Faye Tunstall and Kellie Allen and strangely-named boy band Nicole Jane featuring Carreira brothers Jace, Alfie-J and Dieu and managed by former Herne Bay High School head boy Dhanny Joshi.
Five-piece body-popping dance troupe Nemesis who reached the final five of last year's Britain's Got Talent; three-piece Frixion and the bling-laden Party Dark.

“I really, love Bradley John Mcintosh. He is a great performer and song writer. I have been watching him since I was a teenager. I really do admir and adore him. I hope that maybe someday he will come back to the United States and perform because I would really like to see him or even get the chance to meet him in person. As you can see I am a huge fan so if you ever get to read this Brad hit me back. Peace!!!”

“Was a very good evening if not a bit holiday campish, would have expected it to be a bit more polished. The crowd was fantastic, but was a shame S Club was last as some of the little ones were falling asleep.I do think for the money S Club were paid their slot could have been longer and whole songs sung. Tickets were 17.50 which although is not London prices is still quite high for 20 mins of S Club. But we did enjoy the evening in a tongue in cheek sort of way, nice simple evening out with good mates.”
