Kent's Rob Key says it's the right time to step down as captain
ROB KEY says now is the right time to step down as Kent captain.
Key, 33, led Kent to two twenty20 finals days and a Friends Provident Trophy final. In 2007, Kent lifted the twenty20 Cup.
He made his debut as an 18-year-old in 1998 and has made more than 250 first-class appearances for Kent, scoring 16,731 runs.
Key said: "I'm in danger of possibly not enjoying cricket as much as I could do as a player - I feel now is the right time to go because Kent are really starting to move forward.

"It's a tough year ahead as it always is but I think it's going in the right direction and I'm sure with Treddy it'll continue to do that.
"If, at the end of the summer, you'd have asked me if I wanted to continue to be captain it would have been a 'no'. I was just worn out from it and it's time now to concentrate on myself and get back to really enjoying cricket. It takes a lot out of you being captain.
"I'd like to think I've left with the respect of the dressing room and the club in a good place."
Key says the chance to focus on his batting alone "puts a smile on my face".
He said: "There's no doubt that I didn't quite score the runs as a player than I did as a captain.
"That's the part I look forward to the most. I can turn up to practise and think about myself and not worry about what Colesey's up to or someone else – he [James Tredwell] can deal with that now.
"I'll be here to help Treddy, do whatever or say nothing. We'll sit down and chat about what he wants from me in the near future.
"If he wants no advice or advice, I'll always be there for him."
