SIX weeks of drama and family entertainment at Dover Castle starts with a medieval siege next weekend.

The castle will be transformed into a battlefield as opposing troops bring to life one of England's bloodiest and most critical military operations when, in 1216, Dover defended the nation from French attack and turned the tide of history.

Visitors can experience the atmosphere of a medieval castle under attack as they explore the army encampment and witness the preparations for combat. There will be skirmishes throughout the day, gradually building up to a battle on Palace Green.

In the Great Tower visitors can become immersed in the atmosphere of a household under siege.

Tickets cost £14.90 for adults, £12.80 concessions, £7.50 for children and £ 37.30 for family tickets. English Heritage members £1 adults, £1 Concessions, 50p for children, family tickets £2.50

The castle is open every day from 9.30am to 6pm.
