Reid takes the South East Open
WHILE the hated by some dogfish have been a major catch from the local shore in recent weeks, this weekend the other dogfish species – the smoothhound – turned up along with some big thornback ray. Smoothhound grow far bigger than the lesser spotted dogfish and are renowned as strong fighters – hook one and your reel spool will empty of line quickly.
Sunday's South East Open series fished at Sandown near Deal saw bumper catches despite entry numbers being down because of the lack of the vital peeler crab bait.

The Dover versus Calais festival of sport fishing section was also fished at Deal and it was a clear win for the Dover squad.
