Huge weekend of football at Culverden Stadium as Tunbridge Wells double up
IT promises to be a huge weekend of football at the Culverden Stadium as Tunbridge Wells double up with some league and cup action.
Martin Larkin's side face Ryman South outfit Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Cup tomorrow, before they welcome local rivals Sevenoaks Town for a Kent League clash on Monday.
Both are certainly tasty encounters. Wells get the chance to test themselves against higher opposition in the cup, before battling it out for local bragging rights in the league.
"It's a very big weekend," Larkin said. "Saturday is obviously huge, as it's the FA Cup. I hope the town come out and support us. I've had Dulwich Hamlet watched and they are a very good side.
"The management team were at Beckenham a few years ago, so we know they'll want to get it down and play. We need to get in their faces and stop it.
"If we get a bit of luck going forward, you never know what's going to happen. However, it would be a very special performance if we win because on paper it should be straight forward for them."
Larkin added: "Monday is just as important. Sevenoaks Town is the big derby and it's the game the players are always looking forward to. In two league games we've kept two league sheets. If we can finish the month with five points it will have been a very good start."
Wells have started the season impressively, although Larkin is of the belief it could have gone even better. With three games gone, they have yet to concede a goal, although the statistic of one goal scored tells its own story.
On Saturday, Wells were held to a 0-0 draw at Erith Town, but were frustrated at not getting all three points.
"It shows how far we've come that the changing room was dead at the end," Larkin admitted. "Everyone realised we had dropped two points. In years gone by, it would have been a point gained – not on Saturday."
Larkin has bolstered his ranks in the past week with three new signings. Goalkeeper Darren Ibrahim was on the books with Ashford Town last year and will provide Mikelle Czanner with some competition between the sticks, while Anthony Bodle and Alex Flisher have arrived from Maidstone United on dual registrations.
All three are of Ryman quality and will add to an already impressive squad at the Culverden.
Larkin welcomes Czanner back from Slovakia this weekend and is hopeful Benji Agana will be fit to face his former club on Monday, to add some much needed firepower to his team.
