WHILE Ben Ransom admits winning a second successive Grand Slam with England's Under 20 is the prime objective at the moment, the 20-year-old knows a new chapter in his rugby career begins after the tournament.

The former Tonbridge School pupil will no longer be eligible to play for the team next season, due to him turning 20, so the main focus will be to progress at his club Saracens – home of current English rugby star, Owen Farrell.

However, there are still four Six Nations games to be played and after the opening-day thrashing of Scotland 59-3 in Glasgow, Ransom and his England side are well on the way.

Sadly, England couldn't pull off the Italian job on Friday, as the Rovigo pitch was frozen so the match was called off.

"We trained on it at 4.30pm on the Thursday and it was pretty hard on that day," Ransom said.

"It would have been hard the next day as well and probably been worse.

"After our game against Scotland, when we played really well, it was annoying we couldn't play.

"Last year we won the grand slam and, although it is a different team this year, the goal is the same.

"If we can perform like we did against Scotland then, hopefully, we can come out winners again.

"We have got a good group – this is my last year playing for the under 20s and I feel it is good to play on a team with guys your own age.

"After the Six Nations, I will be looking to push on in my career."

Ransom has found opportunities limited at Saracens, with six appearances in the LV Cup since making his debut at 18, and has signed on a duel registration deal with Championship outfit Bedford Blues.

The former Kent player will aim to help Bedford push for promotion in the remainder of the season and Ransom knows it is a good opportunity to get some playing time under his belt.

"Playing in the LV Cup is good experience – to be able to play with the first-team in games is very good. It (Saracens) is a good set-up and they really look after you well – playing in the A-League really helps you and your game.

"I want to put in some good performances with Bedford after finishing with England under 20s and next year, try to get some games for Saracens."

Ransom said he sent his team-mate Farrell, the English hero in Rome last weekend, a message congratulating him on his performance and who knows, they could line up together regularly at Saracens next season.

Next Friday, England host Wales at the Stoop in their second match of the Six Nations.
