Town clerk Richard Styles said the council could get better terms at the Custom House than if it remained at Albion House, which owners Thanet council are trying to sell.

In another vote the council agreed to look at buying Albion House to keep it partly in public use.

“Smart move by Ramsgate Town Council. It was obvious that once Thanet District Council had considered placing Albion House on the assett disposal register they were not going to be reliable landlords. By moving into the Custom House the new Ramsgate Town Council can start with a fresh new independant beggining leaving all the old civic baggage from the past at Albion House. This is history in the making for Ramsgate, a 21st century solution for a new era.”
