Pupils strut their stuff in Fairtrade Fashion
A FASHION show by students celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight in Tunbridge Wells.
Pupils from primary and secondary schools across the borough modelled Fairtrade Fashion clothes on the stunning set, which was the result of hard work by Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School students.
Eight primary school-aged children, from St Matthew's Primary School in High Brooms, St Paul's Junior School in Rusthall, and St Augustine's Primary School in St John's, were awarded prizes from a design a T-shirt competition.
Models included students from Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar, Bennett Memorial, St Gregory's, St Matthew's Primary and Bidborough Primary.
"Local students played a key part in the success of the show, giving up their time to make sets and model Fairtrade clothes," said one of the organisers Mandy Flashman-Wells. "The show was not only an entertaining but also thought provoking, informative presentation about the ethics of the clothing industry.
"The winners of the T-shirt competition also took a spin on the catwalk showing off their designer T-shirts."
The fashion show was well supported due to the interest in Fairtrade Fashion, which can now be found in many well-known local shops.
Guest speaker Oumarou Gadjere, a Fairtrade cotton producer from Cameroon, talked about the problems cotton producers in his country were facing and the positive impact of Fairtrade in his local community: "It is fantastic for a producer like me to meet the people that buy our cotton.
"I am at the beginning of the supply chain speaking directly to you, the consumer, at the end.
"You wouldn't get that with any other business."
Tunbridge Wells achieved Fairtrade Town status in 2007.

“I loved it. The girls were smokin hot and I thought it was a jolly good evening. I bought a few garments and headed back to my apartment in downtown central soho. I stopped to give money to a busker but saw some newspapers for a dime so spent my money on them. On my way back to the apartment again I spotted the LSPD patrolling. I ran,.

“Izzy De Garston's appearance shone a light on the evening that was the Fairtrade Fashion Show. Overall a dissapointing evening with it's highs and lows, this show did not exceed expectations set by A-List critics. Stars such as Jason Orange and Dom Joly were there, grabbing most of the limelight.”
