Public asked to contribute to 15-year plan
CUTTING crime, improving health and strengthening communities are key targets for a Tunbridge Wells of the future.
These goals are all included in a document drawn up by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, which is now being opened up for debate.
The draft Sustainable Community Strategy sets out a 15-year plan to enhance quality of life for Tunbridge Wells residents.
Targets have been set across areas such as care for the elderly, wellbeing of young people, housing, environment and economy.
Now the public are being asked to give their views on the plan, which can be found at www.tunbridgewellstogether.co.uk
They will be asked if they agree with the council's goals and be given the opportunity to put forward suggestions.
Cllr Roy Bullock, leader of the council, said: "The Sustainable Community Strategy is one of great importance to residents of Tunbridge Wells.
"It is about keeping our streets safe, our residents involved in the community and making sure that the borough has a diverse and thriving economy, amongst other things.
"This is a good opportunity for you to have your say on what matters and I would encourage everyone to take part."
As well as commenting on the goals in the strategy, residents will also be asked to do their bit to improve their town.
The document asks people to take a lead in reporting anti-social behaviour, make an effort to get to know their neighbours and recycle more.
The plan has been drawn up by the council, alongside organisations such as Kent Police, West Kent NHS Primary Care Trust and residents' groups.
As an incentive to take part in the consultation there is a free prize draw, with gym membership, free family swimming sessions and beauty therapy gifts up for grabs.

“I wonder how many individuals on the various councils, departments and other bodies have been on any courses run by the 'charity' 'Common Purpose', whose sole aim, it appears to me, is to disrupt society in this country by infiltrating all levels of influence in public affairs and effecting changes in policy to the detriment and freedoms of every man, woman and child of this country?”

“Another useless talking shop that will achieve nothing of any use for anyone.
Less talking but more doing may be more productive.”

“How about replacing the council with one that's competent?”
