LEE PULLEN says Manchester warrior Ricky Hatton is a credit to boxing – but admitted: "He should never have come back."

Hatton was left wiping away the tears from his swollen eyes on Saturday night after a left hook to the body left him down and out on the canvas in front of thousands of his stunned home-town supporters.

Hatton battled drink, drugs and depression to return to the ring but he retired for the second time after his loss to Vyacheslav Senchenko.

Pullen said: "He should never have come back – it was too much to do –  but it was credit to the man. He's magnificent.

"He'd retired but to try and return was always going to be a big ask. His reasons for doing it were right but boxing is a hard old game.

"He had only been beaten by pound-for-pound some of the greatest in the world.

"The bloke he was fighting wasn't a mug and it was a hard comeback contest for him.

"He lost but the man is a credit to boxing."

Pullen believes the Hitman should have opted for a shorter contest on his return to ring.

He said: "Maybe he should have gone for an eight-rounder. I haven't been in the pro game but it was such a tough ask going over ten rounds."
