Sevenoaks Town: 4

Norton Sports: 1

LAST week against Deal Town, Sevenoaks Town's Tony Atkins had one of those games as a striker you just want to forget, writes Jon Harvey.

It was a completely different story on Saturday, as he grabbed two goals in five first-half minutes to set his side on their way to a comfortable 4-1 win over Norton Sports, at Greatness Park.

Danny Ward and Daniel Akpoveta also got their names on the scoresheet for Town and new signing John Maloney put in an assured performance on his debut.

"It was a good performance and I was pleased with the consistency of our play throughout the game," Jones said. "What I mean by that is, the manner in which we attempted to play, we were always trying to find the spaces and to work off each other. I decided to go with Tony and Daniel after their performance against Deal, their movement and the way they made the team play.

"It worked a treat on Saturday and it gives us a lot of options. Daniel probably just shaded Tony for the man of the match in the end, but both played well."

It took Town 15 minutes before they opened the scoring, Akpoveta crossing for Atkins to head in. Full of confidence, Atkins then notched his second of the game with a accurate left-foot finish.

That was the end of the scoring in the first half, but Town extended their lead in the 55th minute when captain Danny Ward converted Atkins' cross at the fasr post.

Akpoveta, who had a fine match, grabbed a goal of his own in the 90th minute when he flicked home Joe Creasey's free-kick. Norton did manage to grab a consolation when substitute James Ellis scored, but that was the away side's only bright spot of the afternoon.

Town moved up into fifth position in the Kent Premier League after beating Hythe Town 4-3 on Tuesday evening. Goals from Chris Walker, Joe Minter and two goals from Billy Shinners secured the win for Simon Jones's men.

Sevenoaks travel to Sporting Bengal on Saturday for their next league game, kick-off 3pm.
