Mr Bradshaw said: "I want our students to find books that challenge them, that make them think and feel, and inspire them. Whether its fact, fiction, research, biographies and autobiographies – it's all here waiting to be explored."

A range of activities are planned including a debating society, film club, a board games league, a poetry group and a book group.

Mr Bradshaw said: "Books are fantastic for generating real discussion."
