"I was officially welcomed into the parish council at a meeting on December 7 and I am really enjoying it," she said.

Mrs Godfrey's job is to compile minutes of meetings and agendas, write letters on behalf of the council and stay in contact with residents.

The mother of two said: "I didn't know the area that well so I am getting to know it better now. The group has been very welcoming."

Mrs Godfrey attended a heated meeting on February 1 when the issue of the parish council splitting up was discussed.

It was proposed that Shoreham Parish Council should split into three different groups, Shoreham, Well Hill and Badgers Mount.

She said: "I can see why some people want it to split up, but I can also see why some want to stick together."
