Mystery shrouds fun-lover's death
THE FUNERAL of a Hawkhurst mother-of-six took place this week after she died on Christmas Day – but mystery still surrounds the circumstances of her death.
Jane Jones, 44, of Dickens Way, was found dead in her bed by her son on the morning of December 25.
Her family is still awaiting the results of a post-mortem and toxicology report as they look for answers into how she died.
Her 21-year-old son Dave Hamer told of his anguish at discovering his mother's body.
"We went to bed and I woke up on Christmas morning and my mum didn't wake up," he said. "It was horrible to find her."
Mrs Jones had attended the Royal British Legion's Unity Hall in Hawkhurst on Christmas Eve but was ushered out after having an argument with a woman.
Chairman of the Hawkhurst branch of RBL Ray Gould confirmed there had been an altercation in the ladies' toilets.
Secretary of the club Derek Sedge said: "There was an argument and she was asked to leave and ushered out of the door.
"She was not a member of the club and shouldn't have been there.
"I don't know what happened after that. I am obviously very sad for her family and friends to hear that she passed away."
Mrs Jones had been living in the village since October with two of her sons Dave and 11-year-old Wayne Jones, who attended Angley School in Cranbrook.
They have now moved to be with the rest of their family in Cambridge.
Dave added: "She was a woman who lived her life to the full and touched many people's hearts."
The funeral took place on Wednesday at Cambridge Crematorium with many family and friends in attendance wearing Liverpool shirts as a mark of respect for the avid Reds fan.
Neighbour and good friend Jennifer Barnes said: "We became very good friends quite quickly. She was lovely and such fun.
"She always loved to party and we would often go out or go to each other's house.
"She was meant to be coming over to mine on Christmas Day with her two boys.
"She would do anything for anybody. I felt like I had known her forever."
Dave added: "There have been so many rumours. But we don't know how she died ourselves yet."
A dedicated page has been set up on social network site Facebook with 442 people joining the "RIP Jane Jones" group, with many leaving tributes to the "fun-loving" Mrs Jones.
Kent Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesman added: "The coroner was notified and on December 30 an inquest into the death of Jane Jones, 44, of Dickens Way was opened and adjourned."
It is not yet known when the results of a post-mortem will be revealed to the family.
