A MOTHER whose son was stabbed to death by his girlfriend believes he was not a violent man.

Jason Bull, 28, died from a single stab wound after rowing with Kirsty Scamp, now 24, at their flat in Beach Street, Sheerness, in 2006.

Kirsty has always maintained she acted in self-defence as Jason was attacking her and last month her life sentence for murder was reduced to six years for manslaughter at the Court of Appeal, and she was released from prison.

Mum of the deceased, Elizabeth Bull, contacted the Gazette after reading about the appeal hearing.

Mrs Bull, who moved to south Kent with husband Eddie after their son's death, described Jason as a loving, caring, father of two.

She said: "He was devoted to his children and was very friendly with a young boy who had Leukaemia. He would have disagreements with his girlfriends from time to time but he was not violent, no way. He used to buy flowers, he was a sentimental type of person."

Talking about life after her son's death, Mrs Bull said: "We have not been coping. I've just managed to get back into work.

"I've had a DVD made with all his photos on and I haven't been able to watch it. To hear about her release on top of everything, it's just too soon."

Conditions of Kirsty's licence prevent her from returning to her family home in Milton Regis and say she must live in Sheerness for two years.

Kirsty and her mum Patsy Barker are in discussions with probation officers to try to change the conditions.

Mrs Bull said she was concerned about visiting family who still live on the island. "Her mother is saying she can't have her daughter at home with her, but her daughter is still living, my son is dead."
