NORTHDOWN v CARDINALS

Friendly

NORTHDOWN won the annual match against their West Indian friends from London.

Cardinals – formerly known as Stonebridge Park and then Westbourne Park – have been visiting the isle since 1979.

Many of them remembered Northdown founder Gordon Jarman, so the teams observed a minute's silence before the game.

Cardinals weren't as strong as usual as their younger players were involved in a T20 game.

They were all out for 148 in 40 overs, with the home attack bowling economically.

In reply, Bob Green and Colin Mills put on 78 for the first wicket while Leon Harris again batted well as Northdown won with five overs to spare.

NEWINGTON III v NORTHWOOD NOMADS Friendly

A DAMP, green wicket provided a tight game between Nomads and new side Newington thirds.

Bowlers dominated as 10-man Northwood crawled to 95, veterans Chris Carr and Richard Douglas the only players in double figures.

Newington found batting equally difficult as Stuart Hughes and Dan Johnson tore through the upper order to leave them 11-4.

James Black and Ross Jeffery steadied the ship and Newies won by two wickets.

CHERITON v PEGASUS

Friendly

PEGASUS gained revenge for last year's thrashing on a day when a damp pitch and strong winds made batting tough.

Put in to bat, Pegasus were struggling at 3-2 and matters worsened when Alex Sophianou was laid out when a sharp delivery cracked him in the mooey.

But Rob Haddock and Gareth Leader added 53 for the next wicket and a useful 22 from Chris Ross helped Pegasus to 127 in 35 overs.

A stunning caught and bowled by Eric Banning, defying his age and injuries, was the highlight of the reply as Cheriton were dismissed for 112.
