INVICTA midfielder Darren Marsden has played a massive part in turning Folkestone into play-off maybes to title hopefuls – and he's loving life at Cheriton Road.

Marsden signed on an 18-month contract from Herne Bay last month and Invicta have since won five and drawn one.

He bagged his first goal for the club in Saturday's draw with Burgess Hill and has impressed with his ball retention and neat touch.

Marsden said: "We've done pretty well since I've come in and we've played some good stuff.

"I'm enjoying it here massively, every game I've played in I've enjoyed it.

"The last two performances have been a bit iffy but the pitches have made it a bit tougher.

"Burgess Hill was OK but at Whitstable, on Bank Holiday Monday, it was really difficult. It didn't help the way we're trying to play at all.

"We had played on the Saturday and maybe were a bit tired too.

"It doesn't play into my hands really and I get a little bit frustrated as the game becomes more of a scrap.

"I can still get the ball down on the pitches we've played on but it's just the fact the games go a different way. A lot on it is in the air."

Now Marsden has netted his first he's hoping there'll be plenty more to come.

"It was about time, wasn't it?" he joked.

"It wasn't a bad one and it was good to get off the mark.

"Scoring at your new club is one of those things that starts to worry you but now I've got one hopefully there'll be plenty more to come.

"We're playing some really good stuff right now and I feel I'm linking up well with Kingy (Stuart King).

"Personally I don't think he's far off playing to Conference standard.

"I played at Welling after I left Gillingham and he's no different to some of the players I played with there. I'd rank him similar to them.

"He's got so much ability and it's just a matter of getting a chance. If he got one, I'm sure he'd take it.

"I don't want him to move on from Folkestone but he has bags of talent. If he has 10 chances he'll score nine of them, while most strikers need three or four to score one."

King's not the only man to impress Marsden either.

"Josh Burchell has been fantastic too," he said.

"I didn't know a lot about him when I came here but he's been very, very good for us.

"He could go far too, like Kingy."
