Gate rejected the Eagles' first bid for the 21-year-old but a deal has now been done.

Margate chief executive Cliff Egan said: "It's all happened very quickly but we wish Kwesi all the best.

"We knew there was interest from Palace but the move came out of the blue.

"Kwesi came to us and said it was his preferred club so we sat down with Palace.

"We rejected their first offer but they came back and we've done a deal.

"I'm not sure how we'll use the money yet but we're obviously in the market for a replacement.

"Mind you, it won't be easy to replace a player who's scored 35 goals by January.

"We had someone lined up last week but it fell through."

Appiah turned down a move to Championship club Blackpool a fortnight ago.
