Machin and Rowcroft guide Macknade to win
IN the end it was fairly close, but Macknade got their season off to a winning start thanks largely to bowlers Andrew Machin and Phil Rowcroft.
Put into bat after losing the toss, the Mack lads found runs hard to come by and although they saw out their full 50 overs could only post a modest 150-9, opener Kaylem Short's 42 proving crucial to the cause.
Chasing 131 for victory, the home side must have fancied their chances.
But they hadn't bargained on coming up against the bowling of Machin (4-22) or Rowcroft (5-43). Between them the two went through the Minster card like a dose of salts, only a third wicket stand between Craig O'Donoghue (52) and Virendra Vegda (35) holding up the victory charge.
