NATIONAL champion Diana Adegoke is heading back to Birmingham for the UK final of the Sportshall Athletics Championships in April.

Broadstairs girl Adegoke, who won gold last year, was one of seven Thanet Athletics Club members representing Kent in the South-East Regional Championships at Burgess Hill on Sunday.

They brought home two golds, one silver and a bronze medal as Kent secured an exciting and narrow victory over Surrey to qualify for the UK final as South East champions.

Adegoke won the standing long jump with 2.54m and finished 10th in the four-lap race in 55.0s and 11th in the speed bounce with 79.

And with Rhiannon Wallwork (Invicta East Kent AC) and Joanna Okusanya (Bexley AC) the two top points scorers overall, Renique Joseph (Bexley AC) eighth and Diana 10th, Kent had four girls in the top 10 and it was their consistency that took them through to the UK final.

Adam Jacques won gold for Kent in the U13 Boys shot with a throw of 10.23m, Leon King finished 10th in the standing long jump with 2.11m and Kent's boys finished sixth overall.

The 11 Kent U13 Girls included four from Thanet. Chantelle Bailey won silver in the standing long jump with 2.25m and placed seventh in the two-lap race in 27.0s.

Alice Fox won bronze in the two-lap race in 25.2s and placed eighth in the shot with 8.55m, in a competition where the two top girls threw further than the winning boy.

Maddy Johnson set a new personal best of 1.35m in the high jump for fifth place while Tanya Bailey placed ninth in the shot with 8.08m. Kent's U13 Girls finished fifth overall.
