Lighting up in parks: soon just a memory?
SMOKERS could be banned from lighting up in parks across Tunbridge Wells.
A report agreed by Kent County Council this week recommends banning smoking anywhere children could be present – including parks, sports stadiums and public events.

BANNED? Smoking in parks could soon be a thing of the past
The report will now be considered by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.
Cabinet member for health Councillor Catherine Mayhew said: "It may well be that over time we consider denormalising smoking, so that it's not something that is seen in public places.
"I don't think anything should be ruled out.
"I find it offensive myself when people are smoking. I went to a restaurant recently on a warm evening but had to sit inside because there were so many people smoking outside."
The recommendation forms part of the Kent Tobacco Control Strategy 2010-2014, which was put together by public sector body the Kent Alliance on Smoking and Health (KASH).
It calls on councils across Kent to demonstrate a commitment to protecting children from tobacco by introducing smoke-free conditions at "events and/or facilities that are aimed at children and/or families".

“Waste of time idea from a councillor with obviously too much time on her hands. How about banning chewing gum then? Seeing as it's that that litters the pavements and footpaths in more of a way now than fag ends ever did.”

“Is this for real!!
I would hazard a guess that Dunorlan park is more littered with beer cans than bio-degradable fag butts.
Caroline Mayhew needs to get her priorities right.... these public amenties should be accessable to all.
Try banning alcohol”
