Life on the ocean wave at yacht club's open day
THE WINDY conditions last Saturday were a joy to behold for members of Margate Yacht Club as they hosted an open day.
Sailors of all abilities were welcomed to the club to go out and have a whirl on water, although the high winds nearly threw that idea out of the window as conditions would have been difficult for beginners.

But the club persevered and ten brave souls went out on to sea and sampled the best of what the club has to offer.
The club, based in Fort Hill, is a small, family-orientated outfit that also provides coaching for sailors, as well as competing in race events throughout the summer.

Not surprisingly, due to the poor recent weather, the club hasn't been able to fulfil all their fixtures but are still looking for new members to join their crew.
Instructor and treasurer of the club Dave Bull said that everyone who came along thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the club has picked up some new members.
He said: "For us it was fantastic. We enjoy taking first-timers out on the water and showing them what sailing is all about.
"When we came back in and saw the smiles on everyone's faces we knew that it was a success.
"It is amazing that people have lived in Margate or Broadstairs all their lives, yet haven't been out on a sailing boat once.
"The weather was very windy in the morning and we were unsure whether to go ahead with it or not because it could have been too rough and choppy out there.
"But we decided to plough on and I am glad we did because it really was a great day.
"We want to encourage more people to come along. It's a great hobby and we have got great sailing conditions here in Margate, so you are guaranteed some fun."
