This is Kent

LOUISE Watson, Medway and Maidstone’s distance running legend, was back in action on Sunday.

The six times Kent Cross Country champion has recently moved to south London and that’s where she was - in Greenwich Park - to finish fourth woman (39:16) in the Meridian 10km staged by Cambridge Harriers.

Having always been a light racer, she is unsure when her next outing will be. But she won’t be retiring … not yet.

IF WINNING becomes a habit, then so can losing. As Mike Coleman found out at the weekend. The M&M ace suffered a second successive Kent championship defeat when he was outlasted in the Thanet 20.

Runner-up in the county cross championships last month, he again had to settle for second place in a race which incorporated Kent title.

In very windy conditions at Ramsgate, Coleman stuck with Julian Rendall until the closing stages but eventually lost out to the Tonbridge athlete by 22 seconds.

M&M also had the women’s silver medallist.

Kerrie Clarke, who is in training for the London Marathon, led until 17 miles then faded to finish third (the second finisher was not part of the Kent championship section of the event).

Men: 1 J Rendall (Tonbridge) 1:54:38; 2 Mike Coleman 1:55:00; 3 G Robb (Paddock Wood) 2:00:40 … 52 Ivon Whitmore (M55) 2:26:27; 395 Colin Carpenter (M55) 3:39:57.

Women: 1 (31) S Hawkins (Maidstone, W45) 2:21:00; 2 L Burton (Paddock Wood) 2:21:41; 3 Kerrie Clarke (W35) 2:23:55
