Larkin rues Wells' lack of creativity
Tunbridge Wells: 1
Lordswood: 1
TUNBRIDGE Wells made it six league games unbeaten on Saturday, but will feel they had missed out on a golden chance to take all three points at the Culverden.
Up against bottom of the table Lordswood, Wells went into the match with high hopes of making it two wins in two. However, in the end they were thankful to Brad Draper for rescuing a point.
The game was always going to be harder than it looked on paper. The visitors had a new manager, Jason Lillis, new signings and hungry players desperate to show what they could do.
Wells boss Martin Larkin admitted as much when he said it was a difficult time to play them, although he was still frustrated with the result.
"It's two points dropped and the boys know that. It was, however, pleasing to see how disappointed they were at the end," Larkin said.
"It was another game we dominated. We had all the possession, 17 or 18 corners, numerous free-kicks, but did not create too many clear cut chances.
"We've worked on fitness, our shape at the back and we are hard to beat. That can be seen in the number of draws we've had. Now it's up to me to go away and come up with some fresh ideas when we are going forward. We've got the talent there – we just need to work out on the training pitch on game plans."
Wells dominated the opening exchanges on Saturday. Benji Agana went close on a couple of occasions, while Mike Lord forced a good save from the Lordswood goalkeeper. One of several corners even hit the bar, before the visitors broke away to open the scoring.
Todd played in Scott Punton and he made no mistake.
Wells continued to push on after the break, but chances were few and far between against a disciplined Lordswood outfit.
With 10 minutes to go Larkin decided to throw caution to the wind by going three at the back, with Brad Draper pushed up front.
It was a move that paid dividends. No less than 60 seconds later the ball fell to him in the box and he lashed it home.
Tomorrow afternoon (Saturday), Wells travel to Greenwich Borough.
"They are a very organised outfit with two very, very quick lads up top. Benji is suspended, so that is a blow, but it gives an opportunity to Jon Pilbeam and Tom Fuller. They've got the chance to show us in training what they can do – the best one will play."
