DELIGHTED: Tunbridge Wells boss Martin Larkin. He has challenged his team to make it eight games without defeat
MARTIN Larkin believes Saturday's victory at Greenwich Borough was the best away performance he has seen in his time at the Culverden Stadium.
Tunbridge Wells turned on the style to win 3-0 and move into sixth place in the league.
Scott Whibley got the visitors on the right track, hitting his first goal in a Tunbridge Wells shirt after 24 minutes, before Jon Pilbeam got in on the act ten minutes later, turning home a Nick Graham cross.
Two-up at the break, the Wells made sure their lead wouldn't slip this time during the second half, and added a third goal in stoppage time at the end of the game, courtesy of Alex Rich.
First team manager Martin Larkin was naturally delighted: "We spoke about stepping up to the next level before the game, and that would involve coming and winning at places like Greenwich Borough.
"The guys then went out and produced the best performance of the season and the best away performance since I have been at the club.
"Don't let the score confuse you – Greenwich are a very good side, but we dominated from start to finish. We gave the guys a very specific gameplan and they stuck to it.
"Sam Phillips and Andy McMath were excellent in the middle – Macca could hardly walk afterwards (he was full of flu). Jon Pilbeam and Mike Lord ran their socks off up front. The wide guys were a constant threat, and the back four, with Michal in goal, were excellent."
He added: "We were clinical in front of goal, and it was very pleasing that the goals we scored were directly related to the work we had done on Thursday at training."
Larkin and his coaching staff had opted to address the attacking specifically during training in the preceding weeks.
"We are now seven unbeaten in the league and deserve to move up the table the way we have this month. Beckenham will be a tough game on Saturday – they are exceptional going forward, so we will have to give the guys another game plan to execute. If they do it well, there is no reason why we can't go eight unbeaten," Larkin said.
