Land Registry in Tunbridge Wells to close
Hundreds of employees could lose their jobs after Land Registry confirmed it is shutting its Tunbridge Wells office next year.
The decision to close the premises in Forest Road by June 30 2011 was confirmed today following a six month consultation .
The Tunbridge Wells office employs around 200 people and is one of two in the south-east which will close, along with a premises in Stevenage.
Chief land registrar and chief executive Marco Pierleoni said:
"We have listened carefully to the views expressed during our consultation. The aim of the plans announced today is to bring certainty and financial stability as quickly as possible and to secure the future of Land Registry in these very difficult times.

“it is rumoured to have been a done deal with the council even before the consultation period ended which would have clearly influenced the final decision re the future of LR in TW”

“I heard that the Land Registry here was closing instead of Croydon (where I belive staff get London weighting) was because a "Local Got't buyer has already been lined-up.”
