Lack of sponsorship leads to cancellation of this year's Dover Regatta
THIS year's Dover Regatta has been cancelled.
The popular annual event, due to have taken place on July 7 and 8, will not be staged due to higher costs, a fall in sponsorship and concerns that some of the attractions and volunteers would not be available.

Lack of sponsorship leads to cancellation of this year's Dover Regatta
In a statement Dover Regatta Events Ltd said it will now concentrate on a "bigger and better" 2013 event.
The statement says: "During the planning of the 2012 Regatta it has become increasingly apparent that we would be unable to deliver an event of acceptable quality this year due to both financial and availability constraints.

"After much thought and consideration, it has been agreed by the organisation committee that this year's Regatta should, with regret, be cancelled and concentration be focussed on delivering a bigger and better event in 2013.
"The main reasons for this decision are the increased costs in the provision of essential services without which the event cannot take place – these costs may have been increased due to the many additional events taking place in Dover this year and the general decrease in available sponsorship due to the current economic climate.
"In addition to the financial issues there were also concerns regarding the availability of some attractions and volunteers."
Members of the Regatta core group thanked event partners, including Dover Harbour Board, Dover Town Council, Dover District Council, the RNLI and Kent Police for their work.
The statement adds: "We are sorry that the wonderful Dover public will not have a Regatta this year, but we will be back next year stronger than ever."
