Kwiek off the mark in 'home' tussle
MEDWAY team Kwiek collected only their second Haven Sports National Korfball League victory of the season on Saturday.
Ironically, it came on "home" turf during a day's national league competition at Medway Park where they overcame "neighbours" Invicta Sharks 25-8 thanks to Adam Camies (10), Kieron Hicks (8), Kieran Taylor (3), Luke Francis (2), Virginia Richards and Francine Taylor.
No joy for the two other local teams, Kingfisher or Tornadoes.
The former were beaten 17-12 by Nottingham despite goals from Joe Bedford (5), Natasha Dawson (2), Aimee Evans (2), Charlie Vogwill (3), James Woolmer (2), Amy Turner (2) and Hannah Lorrimer, while Tornadoes were beaten 30-9 by Trojans I.
On target for the Gillingham-based team were Corinne Buckland (2), Alex Derham, (2), Oliver Woodham, Ashley Warner, Daniel Howard, David Buckland and Thomas Holder.
Things got no better for them during Sunday's fixtures, either, with only Tornadoes coming out on top among the Kent contingent.
They did for Invicta 20-18, while Kwiek were beaten 21-6 by Bec and Kingfisher by a 16-10 margin at the hands of Mitcham.
Alice Bodkin and Luke Francis both bagged hat-tricks for Kwiek, Kingfisher's replies came from Jordan Lown (5), Ross Carr-Taylor, Samantha Bedford, Chris Martin, Rachel Turner and Liam Kirby, while scorers for Tornadoes were Jordan Holdstock (7), Corinne Buckland (6), David Buckland (4), Oliver Woodham (2), Daniel Howard (2), Ashley Warner (2) and Alex Derham.
With one more week of the regular season to go, Kingfisher are best placed of the Medway teams in sixth place. Invicta, Tornadoes and Kwiek fill the bottom three places.
