Kent County Council sets council tax rate for 2010-11
COUNCIL tax for Kent County Council's precept will rise by 2.57 per cent next year - meaning a Band D property will have to pay 50p more every week.
A total of 465 council jobs will also be axed in the next two years and council staff will not be getting a pay rise until at least April 2011.
These were just some of the revelations from Kent County Council as it announced its budget for 2010-11 and its three-year medium term plan until 2013 this week.
Leader Paul Carter told a packed briefing today that the authority faced a tough three years as it tried to save more than £200m from its overall budget of £2.2bn.

“Well lets hope they at KCC do not put all the extra 50p in to an Iceland bank and get it frozen,It would be good if they got spent it on some more grit for the pavements when it snows! If KCC are going loose 465 people and provide the same service then one has to ask why is the tax going up again and why have we the taxpayer been paying for staff KCC really don't need, I expect it is because they spent the money on the internet on a TV channel and got £50 million frozen in a failed Icelandic bank
They will be many people I expect wondering why the tax keeps going up and the service gets worse!”

“dont mind paying money if it's used properly, training for the councils "customer service" personel would be a start..very rude on the phone, gritting the roads that get you on to the main roads...waste of man hours and money gritting a21 if you cant get out of the village to get on to the gritted roads. improvments to the a21 BEFORE the increase in traffic for the new hospital not after it's open. Not spending money on posh meals for big wigs, christmas lights..let the retailers pay for them aftert all they benifit from the people coming to see them and then shopping, and investing our money overseas after being warned by two finnacial experts not to. if id waisted my companys money and had the couldn't care less attitude to the people that pay my wages...i'd be sacked...without a golden handshake!”

“How a local government organisation based in one county can just loose 465 people and carry on shows how inefficient things have become under this failed Labour government. Maybe this will force things to get more efficient at KCC unlike the muppet show by management this week with gritting and previously parking charges/highways issues.”

“Doubtless those 'running' the council will still be awarding themselves above-inflation salary rises and receiving large bonuses for failure. The lunatics really are running the asylum ¿ you just couldn't make it up!”

“KCC havealready tried twinning in oct 2008.
KCC chief executive Peter Gilroy said: "Paul Carter, leader of KCC, and I have been very impressed by what John has achieved in Worcestershire.
¿Subject to the formal agreement of Worcestershire County Council, John Hobbs will have the opportunity to take the transformation of Kent Highway Services to the next stage and help us transform the experience of customers.
¿I am grateful to Worcestershire and we look forward to working with them."
Mr Hobbs said: "I see this as a great opportunity to develop and build on what has been learned at Worcestershire.
He came and he went within 6 weeks and KCC have had an acting Highways Director ever since and they still employed the Director than Hobbs was employed to replace.”
