Mark Dance, one of Whitstable's two Conservative county councillors, has been appointed cabinet member for regeneration and economic development at Tory-controlled Kent County Council, it was announced yesterday (Thursday May 3).

The Seasalter resident runs a building firm and has been a county councillor since 1997. In recent years he has held the cabinet brief for education and been chairman of the regeneration and economic development policy overview and scrutiny committee.
