Jean digs up a winner
BUSINESS bosses counted one potato, two potatoes, three potatoes and more at the culmination of a contest to grow the biggest crop.
Fifteen traders joined the competition, organised as part of Herne Bay in Bloom, and nurtured potato plants outside their shops for weeks.
Monday brought the moment of truth as the crops were unearthed and weighed to find the most successful gardener.
It was a close contest but Jean Ifill, from Sutton Cottage Antiques, pipped the others to the post with a haul weighing in at 1lb 15oz.
The event was also supported by Herne Bay Allotment Society.
