Youngsters from St Peter's School in Canterbury embraced the spirit of the historic sporting event, during a project focusing on the Games.

Each class explored a different participating nationality, before taking part in their very own St Peter's Olympic Games 2012 last Friday at Canterbury Academy.

In true Olympics style, the event culminated in medal and closing ceremonies, which saw Lord Mayor of Canterbury Councillor Ian Thomas handing out the well-earned awards.

Mr Thomas said: "It was a real pleasure to be there, and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. There was singing and dancing, and some of the littler children were speaking in French. It was a fabulous day.

"I can absolutely appreciate the value of what they're doing. I like the idea of the whole school taking part in exercise.

"The school is really leading the way and I hope others follow suit. I was very impressed by the whole school."
