Huddart said a fond farewell to students and staff at The Charles Dickens School in Broadstairs who have allowed him to leave a year earlier at the end of Year 10.

Huddart said on joining the Gunners: "It is a massive opportunity. The school staff and my friends have been fantastic in their support of me and I hope to do really well."

Head teacher Andrew Olsson added: "Ryan is a fantastic talent and an excellent prospect.

"We may have another young England keeper in the mould of Joe Hart – we certainly would not stand in his way and we have worked with Arsenal to ensure his education continues."
