Hoyte-trick star hits 50 mark
JENNIE Hoyte reached another personal landmark as she helped Holcombe Ladies’ first team consolidate second place in the East Women's League Premier Division on Saturday.
Hoyte took her season’s tally to 40 as she registered another hat-trick in a 7-0 defeat of Thurrock. That was, incredibly, the 50th treble of her career.
Katie Ogden, Leigh Bierman, Rachel Cook and Lauren Osborn got the other goals to keep Holcs tucked in nicely behind leaders Canterbury I (with two games in hand) and ahead of the other title contenders, Dereham.
The ladies’ second string collected their third successive victory by way of a 3-1 margin at Meopham thanks to Gill Griffiths, Beth Hayes and Parnia Parsons, but there was no joy for the thirds, who were shaded 1-0 by local rivals Anchorians II.
It wasn’t the best of weekends for the men, though. Well, not the men at the top, anyway.
The first team had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Oxted and while the seconds beat Crawley 3-1 - goals from Greg Gandy (2) and Stephen Waldrom kept them third, one point behind Worthing and a game in hand - the 2As (Phil Price) went down 2-1 at Blackheath and the third string came unstuck by a 5-3 margin at the hands of Ashford II.
Ian Harvey, Sam Lund and Andy Simpson got the goals.
Ray Zerafa was on target for the 4A's as they shared a 1-1 draw with Wellcome, but it was success all the way for the teams at the lower end of the scale.
Graham Harvey grabbed a hat-trick and there were doubles for Chris New and Richard Russell as the fifth string did for Anchorians IV 7-2 to stay third, three points behind second place and with an unbeaten record in 2010 intact, while the 5A's weren’t far behind in the goal stakes as they disposed of Tunbridge Wells IV 6-2.
Jade Pierce emerged with a treble here, Richard Cottam weighed in with two and Adrian Hull rounded it off to keep the team top with a 100 per cent home record.
Martyn Ives (2), Aaron Cheema and Leisa Randall were on target as the sixth team shaded Ashford VIII 4-3 and got within two points of leaders Sutton Valence and it was a good day for the 6A's, too. Alan Harvey’s hat-trick and a goal from Vir Panesar helped them dispose of Cobdown II 4-2 to stay top of the table two points clear.
ON A freezing cold day and on a pitch surrounded by snow, Anchorians never really warmed up in attack at Canterbury. They defended well enough against a confident Canterbury, with Gary Jackson marshalling the back line and Ben Selby building on last week's strong performance in goal and it took a well worked short corner for the home side to take the lead by the interval.
More of the same in the second half, with both Simon Pickard and Alex Foreman making some vital tackles. A's failed to look threatening even on the break, however, so the game petered out and Canterbury claimed a comfortable 1-0 result.
