Horse meat checks carried out with catering firms supplying school dinners in Kent
Kent County Council asked its five catering contractors which provide school dinners for 230 schools - a third of schools in Kent - to verify that no horse meat has been traced in their produce.
Kevin Shovelton, the council's director of education planning and access said: "We have asked all five catering contractors to re-confirm that their meat suppliers are compliant with the required traceability, testing and hygiene processes to make sure the integrity of their products is maintained and they have confirmed that this is the case.
