IN THE Haart Kent County Football League Division One, Hildenborough Athletic are chasing unbeaten leaders Metrogas, who have a three-point advantage. Both have played 13 fixtures.

Athletic impressively boosted their goal-difference with an 11-0 defeat of AFC Sevenoaks. And this was after the home side had missed two penalties in the first 10 minutes. Eventually, they found their scoring boots and none benefited more than Karl Smith, who netted six times.

He was joined on the score sheet by Darren Yeung, Lee Cooper, Charlie Ottaway (2) and Adam Davies.

Goalkeeper Adam Lisney ensured a clean sheet with a fantastic save near the final whistle.

Hadlow Evolution saw their challenge in the Kent Junior Cup Group A end at the last-16 stage with a 4-2 defeat at Gillingham Green.

They trailed on two occasions in the first half, but found equalisers through Chris Gregory and Myles Lowden. After the interval, Evolution enjoyed good possession, but it was the home side, who scored twice more to seal passage into the quarter-finals.

In Division Two East, Hawkenbury put in a good performance at leaders Malgo, but still returned home with nothing as an early second-half goal from the hosts made the difference.

And this was a few days after the Hawks had lost at home to Guru Nanak. Those two defeats leave them in the bottom four with just over half of their fixture list still to play.

In the Premier Division, Staplehurst Monarchs drew 2-2 with Tudor Sports. Peter West and Scott Penfold scored for them, but they are still in peril.

Relegation from the same division looks likely for Tonbridge Invicta, as they lost 6-2 at Stansfeld O and B Club. In the Kent Invicta League, goals from Josh Biddlecombe and Charlie Thompson were not enough for Rusthall as they played host to leaders Bly Spartans. The visitors were in front early on and, despite a strong response from the Rustics, it was 4-2 at the final whistle.
