Hessy won't be fooled by Gills' second four-goal effort in pre-season
Gills 4 - Peterborough 1
GILLS recorded their second successive four-goal pre-season victory, but in truth this one was a stroll against what was effectively a reserve side containing only a few players with Championship experience.
-
Goals from Chris Palmer (18 minutes), Andy Barcham (90 seconds later), Andy White and Luke Rooney did the damage, although manager Andy Hessenthaler won’t be fooled into thinking his side are ready for the season to start.
There were signs that by keeping the ball on the deck and passing it around Gills look dangerous, but Hessy will be well aware there is a lack of stature in midfield and that he might need a bit more physical strength for the months ahead.
However, he will equally have been pleased with the contributions made by Jack Payne, Danny Spiller, triallist Tony Sinclair and former Ajax man Stanley Aborah, who brought some really clever touches and passing to the second period.
