HERNE Bay have continued their pursuit of Kent League leaders Faversham Town with an excellent 4-1 win away at Deal Town last night.

Danny Lawrence gave them the lead after just eight minutes, but Deal equalised on 25 minutes through Jason Brazier.

Bay skipper Luke Harvey regained the lead for his side just four minutes later and at half-time it was 2-1 to the visitors.

The home side were awarded a controversial penalty early in the second half which was saved by Bay keeper Dan Eason.

From here on the away side took control, Rob Lawrence scoring twice to put the result beyond doubt.

The Winch's Field side remain 10 points behind Faversham but have three games in hand.

Delighted Bay manager Simon Halsey said: "We dominated for the first 25 minutes, although they had a good spell in the middle of the game.

"But we came good again towards the end and were well worth the three points. There aren't many teams who will come away from Deal on a Tuesday night with that big a win.

"It was a great result and the goals are a bonus."

Bay turn their attention to cup competitions in the coming week.

They are away to Greenwich Borough on Saturday in a Kent Senior Trophy semi-final.

Then, next Wednesday, they host Faversham Town in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.
