A MUM is "devastated" after vandals burned down her family's beach hut on Saturday night.

Sharon Mount's hut in Stone Bay, Broadstairs was dragged onto the beach and reduced to cinders.

The mother of two, who has had the hut for four years, said: "I can't bring myself to go down there and look at it. I don't think I can make myself go there to see it at all. It's devastating. I just feel for the kids, really.

"I have got a four-year-old and a 10-year-old who come down every day in their summer holidays. It's just a shame."

Firefighters were alerted to the burning hut by police at about 10.30pm.

Residents reported a group of 20 youths close to the hut.

Mrs Mount, who runs a cafe at North Foreland Golf Club, said Thanet council should increase security at the bay.

She said: "We pay the same amount of money for our pitch as they do on Viking Bay and they have got security."

It is the fourth time her £500 hut has been vandalised.

Fellow Stone Bay hut owner Katy Fisher, company director of Minters Removals, said: "It's a close community here, this has really shocked everybody."

“This 'was' my sisters beach hut and I hope the scum that did this are caught and made to re-build it and replace everything that was inside it at their own cost. I'm sure that they feel no remorse for what they have done, but hopefully someone out there knows who did this and has a conscience, and reports them so that they can be punished and stopped from doing this to anybody else!!!!”
