A HADLOW man was killed in a crash on the A26 Tonbridge Road in Wateringbury at 7.10pm on Monday, July 19.

Kent Police has revealed a red BMW, that was travelling from Maidstone towards Tonbridge, left the carriageway, overturned and hit a brick wall.

It then came to a rest on the forecourt of the Shell garage at Wateringbury Service Station.

The man, in his 40s and from the Hadlow area, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

The man's family have been told of the incident and the coroner's office notified.

A male passenger in the car was taken to hospital in Maidstone with what are described as minor injuries.

During the incident a gas pipe was fractured, resulting in gas leaking from the pipe.

As a precautionary measure emergency services closed surrounding roads, put a cordon around the petrol station and evacuated a nearby hotel.

The gas pipe was made safe around 7.45pm and the hotel reopened. Further repair work on the gas pipe continued during the evening.

The A26 was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and commenced an investigation into the circumstances. The road re-opened at 11.45pm.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone they have not already spoken to who witnessed the incident or who saw the red BMW in the area before it happened.
