PLANS have been drawn up to turn part of a disused Victorian building in Rochester into a gym.

The former Featherstones department store at the Chatham-end of High Street could become a two-storey fitness centre, if a planning application by The Pump House Gym of Chatham gets the go-ahead.

It would be open from 9am to 9pm on weekdays and 11am to 4pm on weekends and bank holidays.

As well as housing Featherstones until it closed 30 years ago, the building's first floor was home to a boxing club and an electronics company. It has been mostly empty since 2001.

Residents' views on the proposal are being gathered by Medway Council.

The planning committee will make a decision on the plans on Thursday, September 30.
