Greyhound Grace needs a home
A GREYHOUND found abandoned in Sittingbourne and nursed back to health with help from a Faversham vet is looking for a new home. The young dog, nicknamed Grace, was picked up by Swale Council’s stray dog service, suffering a badly broken leg, and was taken to Borden Lane Veterinary Surgery.
Andrew Wills, a specialist in leg-pinning surgery at Toachim House veterinary surgery in Faversham, saved Grace’s leg from amputation, charging a reduced fee, and she is now being cared for by staff at the Borden Lane Surgery.

Grace is described as having a lovely temperament and needs a loving and caring home with owners who are able to be patient with her while her leg continues to heal.
Anyone who thinks they could offer a good home to Grace should call the council’s animal control officer, Tim Oxley, on 01795 417298.

“As an international greyhound protection organisation, we were very moved by this article and sincerely hope Grace has now been found a loving home.
Despite having suffered the trauma of a broken leg, she is really very lucky to have survived at all.
I say this because our research, very sadly, indicates that over 15,000 greyhounds, bred for the
British racing industry, are put to death every year, after being judged unsuitable for racing or
after their "careers" on the tracks come to an end, quite often following serious injury.
Members of the public can help put an end to this horrific situation, by not attending or betting on greyhound races, so that this appalling death industry fades away through lack of financial support.
See our website at www.greyhoundaction.org.uk for more information.”

“This article was sent to me by a friend who lives in Las Vegas and is yet another case of the appaling cruelty suffered by Greyhounds, not just in this country but all over the world. I do hope Grace finds a permanent loving home very soon - I'd have her myself but already have 6 rescued dogs. Good Luck Grace XXXX”

“I wonder what the history of the greyhound is. Many greyhounds are homed directly by their trainer/owner with no regard shown for the future welfare of the animal; a practice in breach of Greyhound Board of Great Britain rule 18, and driven by a need to off-load greyhounds as cheaply and quickly as possible. Many such dogs see a quick succession of ownership and many are later found neglected, abused and abandoned. It is a scandal that has been brought to the attention of the racing industry on many occasions but to date they have chosen to bring no trainer/owner to account.”
