SCHOOLS HOCKEY: The girls' U11 side from Canterbury's Junior King's School defeated independent schools including Culford, Chigwell, Gatehouse, Bancroft's and Felsted to become East of England champions.

They did so without conceding a goal and can now look forward to lining up against 19 other schools in the national finals, which take place in Derbyshire.

The event is being organised by the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS), which represents the leading 600 independent prep schools in the UK and worldwide.

Amanda Scott-Kilvert, head of girls' games at Junior King's, said: "This is a fantastic achievement from a group who combine natural talent and hard work with the ability to play as a team. They epitomise all that we encourage – enjoyment, determination, hard work, teamwork and competitiveness, matched with a sense of fair play and sportsmanship."
