Gillingham boss Martin Allen is considering his attacking options for the visit of Oxford as he ponders who will replace Cody McDonald.

The on-loan striker was recalled by parent club Coventry on Monday, just days after netting the only goal of the game to clinch three points at Chesterfield.

Deon Burton and Adam Birchall are now the leading contenders to step in for McDonald, while 12-goal Danny Kedwell is not too far off his comeback from a hamstring injury, although a start against the U's is likely to be a step too far.

Right-back Matt Fish will be assessed having been forced off at the Proact Stadium with a twisted ankle.

Andy Frampton missed the game altogether due to concussion and he continues to be monitored, while fellow midfielder Charlie Allen (wrist) is not yet ready for action.

Oxford have no fresh injury problems as they travel to the League Two leaders.

Manager Chris Wilder was able to name the same starting line-up for successive games for the first time since August on Saturday and he could do the same again against Martin Allen's men.

"People do have injuries, but to get almost to March and it's only the second time you've named an unchanged side is incredible," Wilder told the Oxford Mail.

Two of Wilder's key men returned to the bench for the goalless draw with York on Saturday. Michael Duberry had recovered from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him for three weeks and Alfie Potter overcame illness.

Josh Parker made his full home debut for the U's and looks likely to be involved again.
